and welcome March and hopefully strong spring soon.
today we want to present another one of Roman's finished paintjob of the end of 2016. We are a little behind with this, but he was just painting to fast to get everything up to date here in the Jungle. This one is:
INSPIRATION
The inspiration for this paintjob was the sculpt itself. It directly reminded Roman on the atmosphere and the looks of an RPG called "Shadowrun".
The character itself inspired to a crazy brute-punk-assassin-or-bodyguard-or-bountyhunter-guy in a dark futuristic alley or strip bar. Of course with a little touch of crazy and weird like in this video.
Roman painted this cool model as a comission work for Spawning Pool Studios and you can clearly see that Sheridan was a truely happy client. Thanks for the sweet collaberation work, Sir!

Last year I made a mock-up model for Dark Tech Effects, a company that does special effect attractions and theme parks (haunted houses, zombie-runs, light shows, and such). This piece was for a room-escape game based on the concept of a prison train car. The players would be locked in and have to work their way from room to room by solving puzzles to access each new section and escape.
Dark Tech provided concept art for the room layouts, and I recreated them in a three-dimensional model. The build for this used a lot of foam core board, skinned with basswood planking. One side folds open so the interiors are more accessible.

In the days when we played Lord of the Rings, I loved my Easterling/Khandish alliance force. It was so unique among LOTR armies, nobody had any idea of what to make of it at the one tournament event where they appeared.
I enjoyed that advantage, and seeing people furiously waste precious ranged shots at the chariots instead of what they should have focused on.
To expand on that idea, my next plan was tom combine mounted Morghul Knights with a Spider Queen, some regular spiders and the little swarms.
The Spiders were insanely fast, and could go through any kind of terrain like open ground. This could flush out prey from rough terrain into the open for the Morgul Knights to run down. Also, the Spider Queen would help to turn the odds in a scrum to my favor by creating some broods on the spot and sending them forward into existing combats.
I still have the Knights and the Spider Queen, along with the swarms. The original spiders were regular Goblin Spider riders from Warhammer. I'm sure that I could find some interesting spider miniatures today!
I had to convert these spiders a bit, to resculpt the areas where the goblin rider would have been.
